Why coaching, and why now

The problem you haven't considered

You think your team needs more training, more process or more pipeline discipline. You know what works, because you did it yourself and succeeded. The problem is the habit you kept from your time as top seller: you step into deals, solve problems yourself and fix things before your team can try. And it works: the deal closes. What you don't see is that your team learned nothing, except to wait for you, and your best people stop speaking up.

The cost of doing nothing

Everything still goes through you. You work longer hours, and your team doesn't grow. If you change nothing, every deal you rescue teaches your team to wait for you. Your best people go quiet first. Later, they leave.

Why coaching

Another training for your team won't help, because the habit sits with you. You still lead like the top seller you were, and you expect your team to sell the way you did. Coaching works on how you lead. You work out what kind of leader you want to be, and how to develop people who succeed in their own way, not yours. You learn to notice when your usual habits take over, for example when you're about to step in, and to hold back so your team can try. Between sessions you try it with your team, and then we look at what happened.

Does this sound familiar?

None of these are character flaws. They are strengths, pushed a little too far.

  • You take over the call when a deal gets difficult.
  • You rewrite the proposal the night before it goes out.
  • Your forecast is accurate because you checked every deal yourself.
  • Your team brings you problems. They rarely bring you ideas.
  • One-on-ones turn into deal reviews.
  • You are the escalation path for everything, including things that aren't escalations.
  • Your best people are quiet in team meetings, and you can't say when that started.
  • A week off means checking your phone every hour.

If three or more of these fit, we should talk. Book a Chemistry Call

A moment you might know

The call gets difficult, and you're already talking.

The customer raises the objection your account executive was hoping wouldn't come up. There's a second of hesitation. You unmute and answer it yourself. It works, the call moves on, and nobody mentions it afterwards.

On the next call, your account executive hesitates a little longer, because by now everyone knows you'll step in.

Many of the sales leaders I've trained describe this same urge: jumping in early and solving it yourself instead of letting the team find the answer. It's the reflex of the top seller you were before you led the team, and it still works. That's what makes it hard to let go.

That moment is where coaching starts. You learn to notice the urge before you act on it, and to consciously give the moment back to your team.

The pattern

Rational Perfectionism. A strength, overdone.

You got this job because you were the one who could close. That strength made you the best seller in the company. Now it sets the ceiling for your team.

Closing skill
↓ becomes
Taking every hard deal
High standards
↓ becomes
Checking everything
Helping out
↓ becomes
Fixing it before the team tries

It doesn't switch off when you get a team. It shows up as stepping into deals, checking everything and fixing what breaks before anyone else can.

The team adapts. They learn that the hard parts go to you. Over time they bring you less and wait for you more. It looks like a team that needs more training. Usually it's a team that has learned to wait.

What change are you looking for?

  • Stepping back from deals while the numbers hold.
  • Stepping from top individual performer into leading a team, without doing everyone's work.
  • Running one-on-ones that develop people instead of reviewing their pipeline.
  • Getting your team to speak up in meetings again.
  • Building a team that handles the difficult call without you on it.
  • Taking a week off without checking your phone.
  • Deciding what kind of leader you want to be.

How it works: Forward and Deepen

Action and learning, in every session

Forward

We move toward what you want to change. You leave each session with a concrete commitment: what you will do, when, and how you will know.

Deepen

We look at what happened and what you learned from it. Action without reflection is just being busy. The learning is what makes the change stick.

  • You set the agenda. I manage the process.
  • We meet as equals. You are the expert on your work and your life.
  • Between sessions, you try things out with your team. That's where the change happens.

Team coaching

When the whole team needs to move

For teams that are new, stuck, or not yet working at their best. Team sessions usually run every four to six weeks over six to nine months, with 1:1 coaching for you as the leader alongside.

Initial meeting

With you as the leader (and a sponsor, if there is one). What the team needs, the goals, and whether team coaching is the right fit.

Team engagement session

The whole team meets me, learns what team coaching is and isn't, and decides to commit.

Team discovery

A 1:1 conversation with each team member plus a team assessment, so every view is heard.

Team coaching sessions

Regular sessions where the team works on what discovery showed: purpose, roles, and how it works together.

Live coaching

I join the team's real meetings and coach in the moment.

Final review

The team looks back against its goals and decides how to keep going without a coach.

Team coaching is priced individually, based on team size, number of sessions, duration and objectives. You get a written proposal after the initial meeting.

It's about chemistry

Coaching only works if the fit is right. So we start with a Chemistry Call.

30 minutes, free.

Bring one situation you haven't solved yet.

I ask questions and tell you what I notice.

You'll leave with a clearer view of it than you came in with.

An honest answer.

If coaching looks useful for you, we talk about how. If it doesn't, I'll say so.

No pitch. A conversation between professionals, on equal terms.

Questions you might have

Can my employer pay for it?

Yes, and many clients use their development budget. When your employer pays, there is an orientation meeting with your manager or HR at the start, a three-way alignment meeting where your manager shares their view, and a joint review at the end.

What does my employer learn about the sessions?

Only that you attended. What we talk about stays between us. I encourage you to share your insights with your manager, but that's your decision.

How do I choose my rate on the sliding scale?

You decide. The lower end is for people who pay themselves or are early in their career, the upper end for employer-paid coaching or senior leadership roles. No proof needed.

What happens after the Chemistry Call?

Package: you get an agreement and a getting-started guide. Once it's signed, you receive the invoice and a discovery questionnaire about how you see yourself. Give it some time; the questions are unusual for many people. We set the first session within two weeks.

Single session: you get a booking link and a short guide to get the most out of coaching.

What if I need to reschedule?

Move or cancel up to 24 hours before a session at no cost. After that, the session counts as taken.

How long does coaching take?

The package runs about three months, with a session every two weeks. A single session is 60 minutes and stands on its own.

I have been doing this for 15 years. Is coaching still for me?

Yes. Most of the patterns on this page come with experience, not with a lack of it. The longer something has worked, the harder it is to see.

Can I deduct the cost?

If you pay yourself, coaching can be tax-deductible in Germany when it has a concrete connection to your current or intended job: as Werbungskosten if you are employed, or as a business expense if you are self-employed. Whether the tax office accepts it depends on your specific work, so please check with your tax advisor. You get a proper invoice either way.

How is team coaching priced?

Individually, based on team size, number of sessions, duration and objectives. After the initial meeting you get a written proposal with a fixed price.
